Air Testing
ALS - Columbia specializes in the analysis of volatile and semi-volatile organic compounds, sulfur compounds and other hazardous substances in a wide variety of air and vapor matrices. Established in 1988, the specialized air quality laboratory provides high quality data, superior customer service, and reliable project management.

LEED Testing
ALS - Columbia provides analytical services to support the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System® for New Construction (LEED-NC) EQ Credit 3.2, Construction IAQ Management Plan Before Occupancy.
Vapor Intrusion
ALS - Columbia has the analytical expertise and project management capabilities to support a variety of soil vapor intrusion and indoor air investigations. Subsurface vapor intrusion has become a topic of particular interest due to factors including:
- Increased recognition of vapor intrusion as an important exposure pathway and greater emphasis on the remediation of contaminated sites that introduce harmful substances into indoor air.
- The recent publication of key state and federal vapor intrusion guidance documents.
Odor Investigations
We offer several different sampling and analytical methods to address compounds with very low odor thresholds:
- Carboxylic Acids
- Amines
- Ammonia
- Aldehydes
- Reduced Sulfur Compounds
- VOC Screen
Air Phase Petroleum Hydrocarbons
ALS - Columbia is one of the few laboratories in the nation to offer analysis of indoor air, ambient air, sub-slab, and soil vapor samples via the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) Air Phase Petroleum Hydrocarbons (APH) Method. This whole-air method is based upon EPA Method TO-15 (GC/MS, stainless steel canisters), but reports target compounds and aliphatic/aromatic hydrocarbon ranges specifically associated with petroleum products.
